2024 Scholarship Recipients

The goal of the HCCNC Scholarship Program is to support student leaders as role models for the Hawai‘i community. The Scholarship Program is aimed at strengthening the pipeline of Bay Area college-bound students and ensuring retention so that more students obtain their degrees. We seek to support qualified kama‘āina, and assist them in making the transition from high school to college, and from Hawai‘i to the mainland.

The HCCNC Scholarship Program has provided over $120,000 in scholarships donated to deserving students, which would not be possible without our incredible sponsors, supporters, and community gathering for our galas.

This year we are pleased to support three outstanding students!  Congratulations to Kaimana Kau, Koa Chang, and Chloe Salom, recipients of the 2024 HCCNC Scholarship!

Kaimana Kau

Kaimana Kau was born and raised in Kāneʻohe, Hawaii. He is a graduate of Kamehameha Schools Kapālama and a current freshman at Stanford University. He is majoring in mechanical engineering and plans to minor in civil and environmental engineering. Throughout high school, Kaimana was passionate about numerous fields. He led multiple medicine-based clubs, conducted scientific research on native Hawaiian medicinal practices, researched Hawaiʻi’s physician shortage with the John A. Burns School of Medicine, helped create an AI model trained for native Hawaiian elderly, played club and high school soccer, and volunteered at his local hospital during Covid-19. Moreover, he is currently working at Stanford on building a glass crusher for women in Kenya, to tackle both ecological and economic hardships. Kaimana’s ultimate goal is to bring back his skillset to Hawaiʻi to work in ocean engineering and uplift his community through the environment. Finally, he is very thankful to HCCNC for helping him achieve his educational goals.

Koa is extremely grateful to HCCNC and its donors for their financial support in making his education possible. He is also thankful for the mentorship they will provide throughout the rest of his college career.
