2018 Scholarship Recipients

The goal of the HCCNC Scholarship Program is to support student leaders as role models for the Hawai‘i community. The Scholarship Program is aimed at strengthening the pipeline of Bay Area college-bound students and ensuring retention so that more students obtain their degrees. We seek to support qualified kama‘āina, and assist them in making the transition from high school to college, and from Hawai‘i to the mainland.

This year we are pleased to support three outstanding students!  Congratulations to Noah Cosson, Vance Farrant, Nick Wong, recipients of the 2018 HCCNC Scholarship!

Noah Cosson

Noah Cosson, is from Kāneʻohe, Hawaiʻi, and is a 2018 graduate of Kamehameha Schools, Kapālama. In the fall, he will enter Santa Clara University and major in Business. His belief in Hawaiian values, giving back to his community, and business morality motivates him to serve others and one day form a startup in the field of technology and electronics. Throughout his high school career, Noah was highly involved in Key Club, National Honors Society, and Peer Educators; he also loves staying active through hiking, running, and martial arts. After graduation, Noah hopes to move back to Hawaiʻi and continue to immerse himself in the perpetuation of the Hawaiian culture, and he will stay involved with local organizations and charities that impact his home for the better, as well.

Vance Farrant

Vance Farrant, was born and raised on the North Shore of Oʻahu in the ʻahupuaʻa of Paumalū. He is a 2017 graduate of Kamehameha Schools Kapālama and a current freshman at Stanford University. Vance plans to pursue a degree in Earth Systems with a focus on Sustainable Food Systems, but his interests vary widely from philosophy to anthropology. He has a particular passion for native Hawaiian culture. This summer he will be working on writing a Hawaiian language novel. Throughout high school, he was involved in developing school gardens and environmental education, and in his local community, he worked to establish a small nonprofit to care for a community bike path. At college, he spends much of his time at the Stanford Educational Farm, where he leads a student club and volunteer workdays. When at home, he enjoys pounding poi in his free time and enjoying the beauty of Hawaiʻi’s beaches. Vance plans to serve Hawaiʻi during and after college, and thanks HCCNC all its support.

Nick Wong

Nick Wong is a 2018 graduate of Kamehameha Schools, Kapālama, and is a full-stack web developer, entrepreneur, investor, creative, and surfer-in-training venturing through the world of startups, finance, and technology. Attending University of California, Berkeley, in the Fall, he plans to major in either Economics, Computer Science, or Finance. Since the fifth grade, when he became intrigued with entrepreneurship, his dream has been to find his way to the Bay Area; the opportunity to further his education at UC Berkeley has provided an avenue for him to fulfill his dreams of leveraging technological and entrepreneurial skills to better the landscape of his home, Hawai’i, and the world around us.
