I Am An American: The Nisei Soldier Experience

Together, we honor their legacy. Together, we remember.

February 20–22, 2026 at Presidio San Francisco

“I Am An American: The Nisei Soldier Experience” is a powerful traveling exhibit, recounting the storied history of American Soldiers of Japanese ancestry who demonstrated their loyalty through military service during World War II, amid the racial tension that followed Japan’s attacks on Pearl Harbor. Visitors will witness dozens of firsthand accounts, historical photos and rarely displayed artifacts that present the extraordinary courage and sacrifices of Nisei Soldiers, including those who comprised the most decorated unit in U.S. military history for its size and duration of service.

Pictured below is Terry Shima, 442nd RCT, a 102-year old veteran, who serves as a tireless advocate of the Japanese American World War II soldiers.
